Poultry and Purpose on the Pine Ridge
Chicken Project: 40 chickens will be purchased by the church. The local Lakota adolescents living nearby will be taught to care and become responsible for the poultry, which in turn provides them with eggs to take home for their families. This helps them understand work and it’s rewards while connecting them to the church community. Relationships are built through positive meaningful interactions. Discipleship, Bible devotions, and counseling are provided for Lakota children involved.
Goal: Suicide prevention and demonstrating the gospel.
FACT: Teenage suicide rate is 150% higher than the U.S. national average. From Friends of the Pine Ridge.

The need is for building supplies for the coops. The weather on the Pine Ridge reservation is harsh compared to many areas of the US and the need for sturdy chicken coops is a priority. Along with the two coops, fencing is needed to keep out predators. Estimated budget: $1250.
